Place furniture against a wall
You can put furniture against a wall with Place against wall…, or drag it in the plan view. When you use Place against wall…, KerfCraft records the wall and the gap. If the room changes, the furniture moves with the wall.
Place it against a wall#
- Right-click the furniture in the 3D view or the Model panel.
- Click Place against wall….
- In Wall, select the wall. Each wall shows its room, its side and its length, for example Bedroom 1 · Partition (north, 3600 mm).
- Type the Gap, for example
20. - Click Place.
If the project has more than one level, each wall shows its level first. The side is as you see the wall from inside the room. If the wall name gives the side, for example North wall (back), the side is not shown again.
The menu shows Place against wall… only when the project has a room. The item must not be inside an assembly.
KerfCraft turns the furniture so that its back faces the wall. The form has these fields:
- From: Left, Right or Centre. Left and right are as you see the wall from inside the room. The default is Centre.
- Offset: the distance from that corner to the furniture.
- Gap: the distance from the finished wall face to the back of the furniture.
- Elevation: the distance from the floor to the base of the furniture, for a wall cabinet.
You type lengths in the display unit of the project. If the furniture goes past a corner or sits over the skirting, the form shows a warning and stays open. Click Close to close it.
The assistant can also place furniture. For example: "Put the wardrobe against the north wall, 20 mm off the wall."
Keep it against the wall#
After you place the furniture, it stays against its wall with the same gap when you:
- Move the wall or its corners in the plan view.
- Change the size of the room.
- Change the parameters of the furniture.
- Move a door or window in that wall.
If you drag or move the furniture yourself after that, it stays where you put it and does not follow the wall. To put it back against the wall, use Place against wall… again.
Drag it in the plan view#
- Click Plan or Split in the main view.
- Click ↖ Select in the plan view.
- Drag the furniture.
The plan shows the distance moved while you drag. The distance snaps to the grid.
Check the gaps#
- Select the furniture.
- Click ⋯ in the 3D view.
- Click Clearances.
The 3D view shows the gaps from the selection to the walls and furniture near it.
Check for collisions#
- Right-click the furniture.
- Click Check collisions….
- In Opened, select Full or Current.
- Click Check.
With Full, KerfCraft checks doors and drawers fully open. With Current, it checks them as far as they are open in the view.
The form lists each problem. It finds furniture that hits walls, the ceiling or other furniture. It also finds doors and drawers that cannot open fully, and furniture that blocks a window or doorway. If there is no problem, it shows No collisions: it fits, and its doors and drawers open fully.
