Reuse components in another project
You can use a part, a unit or a component from one project in another project. Use a file to share it, or the model library to keep it for later.
Export a selection as a file#
- Select the parts or assemblies.
- In the Properties panel, at Reuse, click Export selection…. You can also right-click the selection and click Export selection….
- In the Import / Export dialog, keep KerfCraft package (.kerf) to insert it into another KerfCraft project.
- Examine the report. It lists what the file keeps and what it loses.
- Click Export….
The file holds only the selection. Its origin is the back-bottom-centre of the selection. To use the selection in another 3D, CAD or BIM app, select a .glb, .step or .ifc format in step 3.
Insert a file into the open project#
- Open the project that the component goes into.
- Click File ▸ Insert from file….
- Select the .kerf file.
- Examine that Insert into this project is selected.
- Type the X, Y and Z position of the origin in mm.
- Click Insert.
If the project has a room, the default position is the centre of the back wall of the room. Z is the floor height. If the file has components that this project has already, the inserted instances use the definition in this project.
Keep it in the model library#
The model library keeps designs and components so you can place them in other projects.
- Select the assembly.
- Click Library… in the toolbar.
- Under Publish current design, type a Name, a Category and a Description.
- At Scope, select Selected: and the name of the assembly.
- Click Publish to library.
If you do not select an assembly, KerfCraft publishes the whole design.
Insert from the library#
- Open the project that the model goes into.
- Click Library….
- Find the model. You can type in the search box or select a category.
- Click Insert component or Insert copy.
Insert component adds a live component: insert it again for another instance, and each edit changes all of them. Insert copy adds independent parts that you can edit one by one.
To share a library model, click Export model…. To add one that someone sent you, click Import model….
