Try another material with AI

AI credit
Copy page ▾

Try another material changes only the parts that you select, on a picture of the view or of the last render. Every other pixel stays as it was. Use it to compare materials, for example walnut or marble, before you decide. It does not change the design.

You select the AI engine, and each engine shows its price before you start.

Before you start#

For the best result, make a photoreal render first. See Take a snapshot or a render. Without a render, KerfCraft uses the current view.

The parts must be visible in the render or the view. If they are not, KerfCraft tells you to frame them and try again.

Try a material#

  1. Select the parts or surfaces in the 3D view.
  2. In Properties, click Try another material…. The Restyle with AI panel opens.
  3. In Try another material, type the material, for example dark walnut veneer.
  4. Select an engine in the list. Each engine shows its price.
  5. Click Try it. The button also shows the price.

If you cannot click Try it, the reason shows next to it, for example "Select a part first".

To change every surface that has the same finish as the selection, tick all with this finish before you click Try it.

You can also open the panel from the scene bar. Click Scene, then Restyle with AI.

Read the result#

The panel shows the original and the result side by side, at the top of the panel. A note tells you that only the selected parts changed.

  • If the model left the parts almost the same, the panel tells you. Try again, describe the material differently, or select a different engine.
  • If the model moved the rest of the picture, the panel shows how much. The edge of the new surface can then show.

Click Save PNG to download the result.

Make the result a real finish#

  1. Click Make this a real finish (approx.).

KerfCraft makes a project finish in the average colour of the new surface, and applies it to the selected parts. It keeps the sheen and the pattern of the old finish. This is a rough approximation, not the material in the AI picture. Check it in a render.

A finish changes only how the parts look. It does not change the cut list. To pick a finish yourself, see Apply finishes.
