Add doors and windows
A door, window or doorway cuts a real hole in its wall. You add it from the Properties of the wall. You can then move it along the wall in the plan view.
Add an opening#
- Select the wall in the plan view or the Model panel.
- In Properties, find the Openings row and click Door or window….
- In Add door or window…, select the Kind.
- Type the Width.
- In From, select Left, Right or Centre.
- If you selected Left or Right, type the Distance.
- Click Add.
The form has these fields:
- Kind: Door, Double door, Sliding door, Window or Doorway. The default is Door.
- Width, Height and Sill height: the size of the opening. Sill height is for a window.
- From: the corner that Distance starts from, as you see the wall from inside the room. Centre centres the opening on the wall.
- Distance: from that corner to the near edge of the opening.
- Swing (doors): In or Out of the room. The default is In.
- Hinge (doors): Left or Right. The default is Left.
You type lengths in the display unit of the project. If you do not type a height, a door is 1981 mm high and starts at the floor. A window is 1200 mm high with a 900 mm sill.
Each opening must stay at least 50 mm from each corner. Openings must not overlap, and each must fit below the top of the wall. If an opening does not fit, the form shows why and stays open.
Move an opening along its wall#
- Click Plan or Split in the main view.
- Click ↖ Select in the plan view.
- Drag the door or window along its wall.
The plan shows the distance from the right corner while you drag. The distance snaps to the grid.
Change the size or swing#
- Select the door or window.
- In Properties, find the Opening row and click Size and swing….
- Change the values that you need. The form shows the current values.
- Click Apply.
To move the opening to an exact position, select a corner in From and type the Distance.
The assistant can also add and change openings. For example: "Make the bedroom door 838 mm wide and hinge it on the right."
See doors and windows on drawings#
The floor plan sheets show doors with their swings, and the schedules list every door and window. See Make drawing sheets.
