# Change the units and the region

Show lengths in millimetres, metres or feet and inches, and use the timber and sheet catalogue of your country.

Each project has its own units and region. You set both in the **Properties** panel.

## Change the units

1. Press Esc until nothing is selected. The **Properties** panel shows the project settings.
2. In **Units**, select **mm**, **cm**, **m**, **in** or **ft-in (1' 6 1/2")**.

The units change how KerfCraft shows lengths, and how it reads the lengths that you type. The cut list, its CSV file and the workshop pack use the same units. DXF, STEP and IFC files always use millimetres. The model itself stays in millimetres, so a change of units does not change a size.

In inches and feet-and-inches, sizes are to the nearest 1/16". A trailing + means that the true size is more than 1/64" larger. A trailing - means that it is more than 1/64" smaller. The exact size in millimetres shows when you move the pointer over a size in the cut list.

## Change the region

1. Press Esc until nothing is selected.
2. In **Region**, select **UK**, **US / Canada**, **EU** or **Australia / NZ**.

The region sets which timber and sheet catalogue the material lists, the generators and the assistant use first. For example, the US catalogue has 2x4 timber and 23/32" plywood.

A new project gets its region from the language setting of your browser. If you did not choose units, a US / Canada project shows feet and inches and the other regions show millimetres.

Existing generated assemblies keep their materials when you change the region. To see the materials of all regions, open **File ▸ Materials…** and select **Show all regions**.
