# Add accessories in metal, glass, plastic or stone

Draw handles, glass shelves, rails and other trim for the look, and keep them out of the cut list.

An accessory is a part that is there for the look: a handle, a glass shelf, a rail, a stone plinth. Accessories are never in the cut list, the cutting plan or the DXF.

## Turn a part that you drew into an accessory

1. Draw the shape with the usual tools, for example a panel with **▭ Rectangle**.
2. Select the part.
3. In the **Properties** panel, at **Accessory**, click **Make accessory**.
4. At **Finish**, click a metal, glass, plastic, ceramic, stone or paint swatch.

The part keeps its shape and finish. KerfCraft removes its material and its manufacturing data, for example holes, edge banding and edge profiles. The **Properties** panel then shows "Accessory — appearance only."

## List a bought accessory in the BOM

1. Select the accessory.
2. Select **Bought (list it in the BOM)**.

The BOM then lists it as one item with its name, finish and longest size. It is still not in the cut list.

## Ask the assistant for an accessory

The assistant can build an accessory from simple shapes: boxes, cylinders, cones, extruded outlines and turned profiles. For example, type "a 900 mm stainless chimney hood over the hob". It can build a group of shapes as a component, so you can edit each part and make copies.

## Handles on a carcass

You do not draw handles on a generated carcass. Set its **handle** parameter to **bar**, **knob** or **cup**, and set **handleFinish** to a metal finish. KerfCraft draws each handle at its holes. See [Build a cabinet, bookcase or wardrobe](/docs/how-to/furniture/build-a-carcass/).
