# Import a GLB model

Put a furniture or decor model from a glTF file into a room as a visual model that is not manufactured.

KerfCraft imports a glTF 2.0 model as a visual model. You can place, move, hide, delete and refinish it. It is never in the cut list, and it is not parametric.

> **Beta.** Tested with sample models, not yet with models from many 3D programs. Check the size and look of the imported model.

## Import the file

1. Select **File ▸ Import / Export…**.
2. Click the **Import** tab.
3. Click the file button and select the .glb or .gltf file.
4. Read the detected size in the report.
5. If the size is wrong, correct the scale. See the next section.
6. Select **Insert into this project**, or **Open as a new project**.
7. Click **Insert** or **Open as project**.

Each mesh in the file becomes a visual part. Named nodes become assemblies.

## Correct the scale

glTF files are in metres. Some files are made in other units. Use one of these:

- In the units list, select the unit the model was made in: **mm**, **cm**, **m**, **in** or **ft**.
- In the scale box, type a scale factor and press Enter.
- In **Fit longest side to…**, type the real longest dimension, for example 2000 mm. Then click **Fit**.

The size in the dialog updates after each change.

## Files that KerfCraft can import

- A .glb file, or a .gltf file with all its data inside the file. A .gltf file that refers to other files does not import.
- 64 MB at most, with 2,000,000 triangles, 64 textures and 5000 nodes at most.
